I do not have a buddy, do I need to find one?
It is a requirement of both Bermuda and international law that you never dive alone, as well as a requirement of all major certification agencies. A guide is available on all dives. Blue Water Divers will find a buddy for you if you wish, or one of their staff will be your buddy. They do not allow solo diving regardless of experience level.

 

Where can I keep my heavy dive gear?
Blue Water Divers is happy to provide free, secure gear storage and rinse facilities for your dive equipment.

 

What sites do you go to?
Blue Water Divers offers a full selection of dive sites. Visit the Wreck Guide or the Reef Guide for full details of the 50 wreck sites and 30 reef sites they visit on a regular basis.

When do you cancel the trip?
Blue Water Divers will only cancel a trip if the weather conditions are not suitable for SAFE diving or for numerical considerations. A minimum of 2 divers is required for a trip to run. Cancellations of trips seldom happen during the summer months. Typically more trips will be canceled during the winter months. They dive in the rain.

 

How many divers to 1 guide?
Bermuda government regulations allow for a maximum of 6 divers to 1 guide. Blue Water Divers usually has a maximum of 3 or 4 divers per guide. Although on occasion during busy periods this figure may rise to the maximum of 6 to 1.

 

Do you have to be guided?
The 1st dive you do with Blue Water Divers will be a guided dive. Any dives after that will be at the discretion of the instructor. Guided dives are typically better, navigation is much easier! and your guaranteed to see all the points of interest and all the cool stuff. Blue Water Divers' staff has over 100 years of combined diving experience in Bermuda. If they don't know where it is, then it doesn't exist!

Which is the best wreck?
This is a personal thing. It all depends on what your looking for. Some people love The Hermes. Due to it's upright, fully intact, being a relatively deep dive. Others like wrecks such as L'Herminie. You'll find very little wreckage, but the chance to find artifacts from a different time. All Bermuda's wrecks are protected by law. It is illegal to remove any artifacts from any wrecks. Which is the best reef?
Blue Water Divers has a vast variety of reef dives to meet the vast variety of different tastes. Their reef sites feature caves and tunnels, shallow or deep. Visit the Reef Guide to see the whole range of sites and find one that meets your taste. Popular choices are Blue Hole, Smuggler's Notch and Basilica.

 

How big is the boat?
There are currently 3 boats. "Rum Line" and "Tsunami" are 36 foot Newton's, with 370 hp single Caterpillar engines. "Mean Time" is a 30 foot converted racing RIB with a 240 hp outboard. Visit the Diving Home Page for full detail of their vessels.

I'm a certified diver, but my wife and children aren't. How can they accompany me/dive with me/snorkel with me/hangout with me?
Snorkelers and passengers are welcome on all trips. Blue Water Divers does daily "Resort Lesson & Dives" specially tailored for the non diver. These are escorted dives with an Instructor. Certain age and health restrictions apply. BWD also offers a full range of Certification courses from total beginner to Instructor level.

 

I want to dive 5 days in a row, will I repeat sites?
Blue Water Divers will try their best not to repeat any sites. Sometimes bad weather may make it necessary. Popular sites are occasionally repeated, due to high demand.

 

How long are the trips? When do we get back?
The morning 2 tank trips leave at 8:15am and return between 11:30PM and 12:30PM. The afternoon single tank dive leaves at 12:45PM and returns between 3:00PM and 4:00PM.

What safety equipment is on your boat?
All boats are equipped with Marine VHF Radio, Oxygen, First Aid Kit, Backboard, Life Raft, Life Jackets, Flares and all crew are CPR certified. Bermuda government regulations require all boats to pass an annual safety inspection.

 

The deepest dive?
The wreck of The Xing Da lies in 110ft as do Deep Canyon and Heinz Baked Beans. The deepest regularly dived site is The Hermes at 75ft.

 

Average depth?
Most of the diving in Bermuda is between 25ft and 75ft. Typically the first dive will be between 50ft and 75ft. The second 25ft to 35ft.

I'm not Advanced Certified or Wreck Certified, can I dive on wrecks?
You don't need advanced certification to dive Bermuda's wrecks, but Blue Water Divers does offer both advanced and wreck specialty courses.

 

Can I get certified or complete higher dive education whilst in Bermuda?
Blue Water Divers offers a complete line of courses from Lesson and Dives for complete novices to Instructor level training.

 

Are all the staff Divemasters?
No! Most of Blue Water Divers' staff have gained ratings in advanced of Divemaster. They have Master Instructors, IDC Staff Instructors, Master Scuba Diver Trainers and Open Water Scuba Instructors on staff as well as Divemaster's.

Will I see sharks?
Probably not. Although there are sharks in Bermuda's water, they are seldom seen by divers.

 

Will I need my "C CARD"?
Certified divers must submit their certification cards or other proof of certification prior to any diving activity. Blue Water Divers can verify PADI certifications via PADI's computer system. A $5 charge will be made for this service.

 

How do I get to the dive shop from Pompano?
The hotel van will give you a complimentary ride to the dive shop.

 

How do I get back to Pompano from the dive shop?
Blue Water Divers will call the hotel for you at the end of your dive trip. The hotel van will then give you a complimentary ride back.
