The
Pompano Beach Club is a golfer's paradise because the Robert
Trent Jones designed Port Royal Golf Course (which has been
ranked among the top public golf courses in the world) is
right next door. The first tee is only a 500 yard walk away
and many of the resort's guest rooms have a good view of Port
Royal's oceanfront 8th green.
Tee
times at Port Royal can be pre-arranged in advance of your
arrival and the resort will transport both you and your clubs
to/from the golf course during your stay. Their current green
fees are $140/person/round (which includes a shared golf cart
and token for a bucket of range balls). Port Royal also offers
an enticing "sunset fee" (currently $70/person without
a shared golf cart and $85/person with a shared golf cart)
if you tee off after 3:00pm. The golf course is situated in
some of Bermuda's most beautiful oceanside terrain. Three
holes on the back nine (15, 16 and 17) and three holes on
the front nine (7, 8 and 9) offer breathtaking oceanviews,
while three additional holes on the back nine (11, 12 and
13) have dramatic views of the Great Sound - so be sure to
bring your camera!

The Bermuda Open golf tournament (the island's top golf tournament)
is played at Port Royal every October. Pompano hosts annual
golf tournaments of its own:
Brochures for all three golf tournaments are produced each year.
The
resort's front desk staff will be happy to arrange golf at
any of Bermuda's other public and private golf courses as
well. Pompano guests are able to play at the prestigious and
world renowned Mid-Ocean Golf Course on Mondays, Wednesdays
and Fridays, on a space available basis. Since Mid-Ocean is
a private course and protects its tee times for its members
first, Pompano can only call twenty-four hours in advance
to try and secure tee times. Their current green fees are
around $200/person - not including a cart or caddie (caddies
are usually mandatory when they are available). Mid Ocean
is about a forty minute taxi ride from Pompano.
Three
eighteen hole golf courses which are located within a fifteen
minute drive of Pompano are Riddell's Bay, Belmont Hills and
the Fairmont Southampton Princess Golf Club.
Riddell's
Bay is a private course, however, Pompano guests are often
able to play it from Monday to Friday on a space available
basis. The course is somewhat shorter (only 5,713 yards, par
70) than the other championship courses in Bermuda, however,
its tight fairways and small, narrow greens provide a challenging
golf experience. Riddell's Bay also has a few beautiful seaside
holes, which create interesting water hazards!
Belmont
Hills was recently re-designed and has received a lot of positive
reviews since its re-opening in 2003. It also has a few holes
which offer great oceanviews. The Southampton Princess Hotel's
golf course is a par-three course, however, it is one of the
more scenic and challenging par-three courses that you'll
ever play! When the wind is blowing off the south shore, their
2,684 yard layout will require you to use most of the clubs
in your bag.
Pompano
has long been a favorite for golfers due to both its proximity
to Port Royal (the island's top public course) and the casual,
relaxed nature of the resort. Advance tee times at Port Royal
can be arranged by calling the resort's Boston area sales
office toll-free from the U.S. and Canada at 1-800-343-4155
or emailing your request to pompano@logic.bm,
attention: Rob.
