The Pompano Beach Club in Southampton Bermuda is a golfer's paradise because the newly renovated Robert Trent Jones designed Port Royal Golf Course (which has been ranked among the top public golf courses in the world) is right next door. The first tee is only 500 yards from Pompano and many of the resort's guest rooms have a great view of Port Royal's oceanfront 8th green. Unlike in the Caribbean, the Bermuda climate helps maintain the lush driving ranges and putting greens, making your Bermuda golf experience a year round event.

Tee times at Port Royal can be pre-arranged in advance of your arrival and the resort will transport both you and your golf clubs to/from the golf course during your stay.  Port Royal was closed from January 2008 through May 2009 so that a major course renovation could be carried out.  The Bermuda government (owners of the course) spent over fifteen million dollars on the project.  An elaborate irrigation system was installed to keep the course lush green all year long and all the greens, fairways and sand traps were re-shaped and manicured to perfection.  The PGA was so impressed with Port Royal’s enhancements that they’ve decided to hold their prestigious PGA Grand Slam event (which involves the winners of the year’s four major PGA tournaments competing head to head) at Port Royal in October 2009 and October 2010. Port Royal's current golf round rate is $165 per person (which includes a shared cart) and they also offer an attractive late afternoon "sunset rate" of $102 per person (which includes a shared cart), for tee times beginning at 3:00pm (2:00pm during the winter months).

Port Royal is situated on some of Bermuda's most beautiful oceanside terrain. Lots of trees were removed during the course's recent renovation project, creating spectacular oceanviews on 13 of the 18 holes, including every hole on the back nine. So be sure to bring your camera!  Click onto Port Royal's website (www.portroyalgolf.bm) if you'd like more information about Port Royal.

Pompano hosts three annual golf tournaments (please call the resort's Boston area sales office if you'd like to receive an individual tournament brochure):

The resort's front desk staff will be happy to arrange golf at any of Bermuda's other public and private golf courses as well. Pompano guests are able to play at the world renowned Mid-Ocean Golf Course on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, on a space available basis. Since Mid-Ocean is a private course and protects its tee times for its members first, the resort can only call twenty-four hours in advance to try and secure tee times. Their current green fees are around $220/person - not including a cart or caddie (caddies are usually mandatory when they are available). Mid Ocean is about a forty minute taxi ride from Pompano.

Three eighteen hole golf courses are located within a fifteen minute drive of Pompano: Riddell’s Bay is a private course, however, Pompano guests can play it any day of the week, on a space available basis. The course is somewhat shorter (only 5,713 yards and a par of 70) than Bermuda’s other championship courses, however, its tight fairways and small, narrow greens present a real challenge. Riddell’s has some spectacular seaside holes, which create interesting water hazards – especially when the wind is blowing!

Riddell’s Bay’s current golf round rate is $155 per person (which includes a shared golf cart), however, the resort is often able to secure discounted rates for golf rounds played Monday through Friday. Please contact the resort’s sales office for more information or to set up tee times in advance of your arrival.

Belmont Hills was re-designed a few years ago and has received a lot of positive reviews since its re-opening in 2003. It has a few holes which offer dramatic views of Hamilton Harbour and the Great Sound. Belmont Hills continues to offer Pompano guests a very attractive golf round rate of $105/person (which includes a shared cart). Tee times can be booked in advance at Belmont Hills by logging onto their website (www.belmonthills.com).

The Fairmont Southampton has a beautiful par three course. It is one of the more scenic and challenging par three courses you'll ever play! When the wind is blowing off the south shore, their 2,684 yard layout will require you to use most of the clubs in your bag.

Pompano has long been a favorite for golfers due to both its proximity to Port Royal (the island's top public course) and the casual, relaxed nature of the resort. Advance tee times at Port Royal can be arranged by calling the resort's Boston area sales office toll-free from the U.S. and Canada at 1-888-537-6448 or emailing your request to pompano@ibl.bm, attention: Kevin.
