The Pompano Beach Club will be hosting its 27th Annual Couples Golf Tournament from March 16th - 22nd, 2026.  The tournament will once again be sponsored by Gosling's Rum.

 

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:
 

The Pompano Beach Club will be hosting its 27th Annual Couples Golf Tournament from March 16th - 22nd, 2026.  The tournament will once again be sponsored by Gosling's Rum, with tournament slots filled on a first come, first serve basis.  As of May 29th, 2025, 63 couples have signed up to play in the March 2026 spring event (64 couples participated in the March 2025 tournament). 

- participants maximum handicap: ladies 36, gentlemen 24 (team handicap will  be half of the two combined handicaps).  Handicaps will be used in all four tournament rounds.  Participating couples are required toemail their Ghin handicap numbers and handicap indexes when they sign up for the tournament.  Couples will be separated into four flights - named after four of Bermuda's most popular 19th hole cocktails.  The "Dark n' Stormy" flight will consist of the couples with the lowest team handicaps. The "Rum Swizzle" flight will be made up of the couples with the next lowest team handicaps.  The couples with the third lowest combined net handicaps will be in the "Yellowbird" flight and all remaining couples will be in the "Pina Colada" flight. 

- each team will consist of one lady and one gentleman.

- rules of the Royal and Ancient Club of St. Andrews and the United States Golf  Association will apply.

 

- the event consists of four individual tournament rounds, with golf to take place at three of Bermuda’s top courses – Port Royal,  Tucker's Point and Belmont Hills.

 

- tournament rounds one and two will take place at Tucker's Point and Port Royal golf courses, with rounds three and four taking place at Belmont Hills and Port Royal golf courses.

 

- prizes will be awarded to the overall tournament winners in the low gross and low net divisions (one couple from each flight) and to the low net winners of each individual tournament round (one couple from each flight).

 

- longest drive and closest to the pin contests for both men and women will be held on each of the tournament days (one winner from each flight).

 

- in the event of a tie for first place overall, USGA tie-breaker rules will determine the winner.

 

              INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENT ROUND FORMATS:
 

The tournament’s first round will have the Dark n' Stormy and Rum Swizzle flights playing a modified best ball format at Tucker's Point golf course, while the Yellowbird and Pina Colada flights play a two-person scramble format at Port Royal golf course.

The tournament's second round will have the Yellowbird and Pina Colada flights playing a modified best ball format at Tucker's Point golf course, while the Dark n' Stormy and Rum Swizzle flights play a two-person scramble format at Port Royal golf course.

The tournament's third round will have the Dark n' Stormy and Rum Swizzle flights playing a best ball format at Belmont Hills golf course, while the Yellowbird and Pina Colada flights play a modified best ball format at Port Royal golf course.

The tournament's final round will have the Yellowbird and Pina Colada flights playing a best ball format at Belmont Hills, while the Dark n' Stormy and Rum Swizzle flights play a modified best ball format at Port Royal golf course.

 

                      DESCRIPTION OF THE DIFFERENT FORMATS:

 

                               MODIFIED BEST BALL FORMAT:

Both players will hit drives from their respective tees and will choose the better of their two drives to hit their next shots from.  They will then play their own shots all the way through.  Each couple must use each other's drive on at least two holes on each nine.  Also, each player will play their own ball from drive to finish on each of the par threes.  Their team score for each hole will be the lower of their two scores on that particular hole.   The team with the lowest net total score after eighteen holes will be declared the winner of this particular tournament round.  The higher handicap golfer of the two receives 90% and the lower handicap golfer receives 95% of their adjusted handicaps.  If a difference of more than eight shots occurs between the two players after the adjustment, an additional 10% will be deducted.

 

                            TWO-PERSON SCRAMBLE FORMAT:Both players will hit drives from their respective tees.  They will choose the better of their two drives and hit their next shots from that particular lie (continuing the same procedure until their balls are holed).  Only one score per hole is recorded.  The team with the lowest net total score after eighteen holes will be declared the winner of this particular round.  Low handicap: 35% and high handicap: 15% - each team will receive 50% of their combined handicap.  

 

                                              BEST BALL FORMAT:    

 

Players will each play their own shots for eighteen holes. Their teamscore for each hole will be the lower of their two scores onnthat particular hole.   The team with the lowest net total score after eighteen holes will be declared the winner of this particular round.  Men receive 90% and women receive 95% of their adjusted handicaps. If a difference of more than eight shots occurs beytween the two players after the adjustment, an additional 10% will be deducted.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
 
Accommodations are subject to space availability.  Participants must stay at the Pompano Beach Club in order to play in the tournament.  Call the resort’s room reservations office toll-free (from the U.S. and Canada) at 1-800-343-4155 to reserve accommodations.  A $800 per couple advance deposit is required to reserve accommodations and a place in the tournament.  The resort accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express credit cards for payment of your advance deposit.

Advance deposits are non-refundable if a cancellation is received within fourteen days of the scheduled arrival date.
